LIVEFIT WITH LUPUS is a newly formed, non-profit, filed 501c3 organization formed to provide awareness for lupus and other autoimmune diseases. The organization's Mission Statement is "To promote health and wellness, inspire others to overcome their own obstacles and create lupus awareness and other autoimmune diseases in the community and eventually around the globe."
Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system does not function properly and attacks normal healthy tissues. It is unpredictable, debilitating, destructive and can be fatal. It can result in inflammation and symptoms throughout the body including connective tissue, blood and organs. There are between one and half to three million people with Lupus in the United States alone. Personally, Lupus has attacked my kidneys, lungs, skin, heart and brain resulting in seizures, nephritis and bouts of existence in a wheel chair. I couldn't imagine a future that wasn't dictated by my disease. There are over 200 types of autoimmune diseases which affects more than 23.5 million Americans. They are one of the leading causes of death and diability. More research and awareness is to help find a cure which will be a trickle effect for all autoimmune.
Our future goal is to host an education outreach center in the Quad-Cities. We plan to offer nutritional counseling, specialty physician resources, beauty wellness, fitness education, businesses within the business, youth to senior activities, psychology and emotional support. We plan to hold annual fundraising events such as a Zumbathon, bowl-a-thon, golf tourney, strong man contest, and many more.
Our main event is a 1 mile, 5K and ½ Marathon Race at the Black Watch Room (on Pebble Creek Golf Course) in LeClaire, Iowa Saturday, May 17, 2014. After the race we are having a Post Party Event with live entertainment, a health expo and kids activities! Our goal is to raise $200,000+ in our first year and we plan to have a minimum of 1,000 runners. We will also help market your company through community outreach and social media.
